Sophie Lockyear

Sophie is in her final year and studies Fine Art. She knew her course would involve using a lot of materials which financially can be costly but was undeterred by her financial situation and went ahead to study her passion at university. This scholarship will allow Sophie to put her all into her final year and achieve a high end degree.

"I am thankful for the opportunities this scholarship will provide me. Receiving this scholarship will help reduce my financial burdens and provide assistance for me as I continue pursuing my education. It will also allow me to devote a greater amount of time to my studies which is very important in Fine Art to put as much time as possible in to make my work the best it can be."

Tom Barfoot

Tom is a 1st year Sports Coaching student who despite being concerned by the cost of university was undeterred as he has a real passion for sport. Tom feels the scholarship will ease his financial burden and he can now spend more time on the sports he loves!

"One of the main reasons I chose the university was because of the amazing sporting facilities, as a 400m/800m athlete sharing a training facilities with athletes such as Jessica Ennis and Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee really excited me.

The scholarship has meant I can spend less time working to support myself and more time on the sport I love. Your donations have also allowed me to become a volunteer coach, helping the local community and hopefully encouraging the next generation of Olympians! Scholarships like this one can truly change lives."
Rachael Bull

Rachael is in her 1st Year studying Graphic arts and design. Rachael doesn't get any other financial help for her studies other than the loan and grant, which just covers her living costs. She chose Leeds
Beckett University because of the way the course was structured. The tutors are always on hand to help or are easily contactable if help is needed. We also get to spend a lot of time with our tutors, whereas in other universities there aren't as many contact hours.

"I find it amazing that people want to help when they don’t even know me. When I found out I was receiving a scholarship I was over the moon. My parents are unable to support me through university so although I have covered my living costs with my loan this scholarship will allow me to purchase course materials and supplies and really allow me to surpass my expectations! I would like to say a huge thank you and I hope that people continue to support this amazing scheme."

Maaryh Sabir

Maaryh Sabir is in her 1st Year studying LLB law. She chose Leeds Beckett University because of the great facilities, especially the Mock Court Rooms which  Maaryh feels are a great tool for anyone wanting to enter into legal practice.

"I am so surprised and delighted to get this scholarship its hard to believe I’ve been selected from so many others who deserved it too. I really appreciate that graduates have donated to make these scholarships possible. Law is a difficult subject and coping with money worries makes it harder. I have chosen to live at home to ease the financial burden but this scholarship will really help make this year easier."
