About Our University
What is the Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarship?
Five Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarships of £1,000 each are generously gifted to deserving students every year by our Chancellor Sir Bob Murray. The scholarships are awarded as a £750 cash bursary and a £250 balance on a campus card, to assist students with the costs related to living and studying at university.
The scholarships are awarded to first year students from the North of England studying accounting or finance related courses on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Sir Bob Murray CBE
Sir Bob Murray CBE qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant from our University in 1972. He is a leading businessman and philanthropist with an enduring passion for education and football. Sir Bob was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by our University in 2008, before being installed as Chancellor in January 2013.
Since 2012 Sir Bob has funded scholarships at Leeds Beckett University as a testament to the transformative power of an education at our University. This helps provide the same opportunities that he had to others. The Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarships are awarded to support students following in Sir Bob’s footsteps by studying accounting or a finance related courses, and like Sir Bob coming from the North of England, aiming to ensure that talented students are able to succeed despite coming from disadvantaged backgrounds.
