Our impact on the environment, economy and society can be both positive and negative. Below is a brief description on how we are increasing our positive impacts.

Socially: Our core service at Leeds Beckett is education. We work to give our staff and students the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions and question standard practice.

It is the decisions you will make in employment that will have the biggest impact on sustainability locally, nationally and globally.

Economic: We will be investing £136 million on the Leeds Beckett Estate over the next five years. All investment decisions within Estate Services are based on Whole-Life-Costing principles.

We will be working to reduce running and maintenance costs, provide quality teaching spaces, maximise the use of space, reduce energy and support the green economy. For example, the procurement of materials with high recycled content.

Environment: We have a number of plans to reduce our environmental impact. These include our Carbon Management Strategy, Sustainable Transport Strategy and Biodiversity Action Plan.

Environmental criteria are built into our day-to-day operations and contracts to ensure everyone in the supply chain is helping to reduce negative impacts and build on positive ones.
