Christmas Clean Up
11 December 2017 - Accommodation
You’re so close to heading home, you can almost smell your mum's cooking but don't forget about your university home before leaving.
Before getting all excited about having some time off, there are a few things you need to remember! You wouldn't want to come back in January to any nasty surprises, would you? So remember these key cleaning tips and look forward to coming back to a nice clean flat in the new year…
Take food out of the fridge
This is forgotten about way too often. Time to get creative and make yourself a random meal using what you've got leftover or you could either send your food to a food bank, or take it back to the rents, just try not to waste it.
Empty the bins
This includes your kitchen and room bins. There is nothing worse than the smell of a three-week old bin. Avoid stinking the flat out and ask your flatmates to all pitch in taking them down.
Tidy communal areas
Ask all of your flatmates to come together to do a big clean of the kitchen/living room and bathroom. Split up the different jobs so that everyone has a part to play.
Get the hoover out
Crumbs invite all sorts of creepy crawlies. Make sure the floor is crumb free and give it a quick vac.
Turn off lights and electricals
All your bills might be included in your rent but it's still important to pay attention to how much energy you might be wasting. Electricals can overheat and start a fire too, so make sure everything is unplugged.
Lock windows and doors
Be safe rather than sorry and double check everything is all locked up when you're leaving.
Clean your room
This might seem pretty obvious but you don't want to be greeted with any unfortunate smells in January. That includes your bathroom if you've got an ensuite! After all, there’s nothing better than coming back to fresh bedding and a clean bathroom.
However, you spend the Christmas break, enjoy it because you've earned it!
