Pride 2017

We showed our Pride at the city’s annual LGBTQ* Pride event.

More than 100 staff, students and alumni marched with pride through Leeds on Sunday 6 August
Leeds Pride is Yorkshire's biggest celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans* life.
Pride boasted live shows, events and a city-wide parade to celebrate worldwide love, equality, sexuality and gender.
We have taken part in the city’s Leeds Pride parade and celebrations since 2014 as a statement of our commitment to LGBT equality.

Dr Ian R Lamond, Co-chair of the university’s LGBT group, the Rainbow Rose Forum said:

“I think this year was our best showing yet at Pride with well over 100 people connected with the university taking part.

"We had professors, lecturers, students, members of the SU and alumni, it was a really good mix.

“Pride was very well planned, very well organised. It was a much bigger parade than in previous years, that seemed to work well and it was thrilling to see so many supporters along the route.

"Pride is significant for Rainbow Rose as we are able to publicly show our support for the community.

“The Rainbow Rose is a forum for the Leeds Beckett LGBT community so that they have a voice which can be articulated within the university to various administrative bodies.

"It’s also an advocacy and lobbying group within the university to try and affect appropriate policies for the LGBT community.”
