Where to watch the World Cup in Leeds
Hey, I'm Ryan and I'm going to recommend some places where you can watch the World Cup matches in Leeds.
The wait is almost over! The 2018 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner, and you’ve got the best seats in the house! Well, you will do after reading this. The world’s most anticipated sporting event will be taking over Leeds, and I can't wait. Hopes will be running high as England try to take their recent good form to the tournament.
Let’s have a look at where you can watch the games in the city, and have a great time with your friends.
The Box
Starting off in one of the most buzzing sports bars in Headingley, the Box will be streaming all of England’s group stage matches, and if they go through, expect later games to be shown too. They will also have other games on throughout the tournament and there’s no need to book in advance, just get there early!
The Box, 8 Otley Road, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS6 2AD
Millennium Square
All of England’s games will be streamed live on the big screen in Millennium Square, which is run by Leeds Beckett and Leeds city council. For those that don't know, Millennium Square is outdoors and right in the city centre. It's surrounded by some great bars where you can grab yourself a drink. With free entry and hundreds in attendance, it will be a cracking atmosphere! Keep in mind that it is advised you get there early to get a good position and avoid long queues for a drink at the bars.
Millennium Square, Calverley Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 3AD
Belgrave Music Hall
Belgrave Music Hall is going to be a crazily good venue to watch year’s tournament at. Belgrave is a popular gig venue, and it's renowned for it's great food and quirky selection of drinks. For the World Cup they will be opening up their first floor music space and streaming the matches there for us to be able to follow England’s road to glory (we hope!).
With free entry and an amazing atmosphere, Belgrave Music Hall will be a great place to catch a game or two.
Belgrave Music Hall, 1-1a, Cross Belgrave Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS2 8JP
The Original Oak
The Original Oak will be a great venue to catch any World Cup game this year. Its huge screen is located within one of the best beer gardens in Headingley, and it is the perfect place to watch a match (weather dependent!).
But not to worry, there are also plenty of screens and projectors inside to watch a game if the weather gets a bit like some England matches... dull.
The Original Oak, 2 Otley Road, Headingley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS6 2DG
Shooters
Shooters is one of Leeds’ biggest and best sports bars, so it’s no surprise they are going all out for the World Cup. They will be streaming every game live on their many TVs. They even have one of the biggest non-cinema screens in the city, meaning you won't miss any detail of the match. My advice is to book a seat early, and make use of their food and drinks packages which start from just £10.
Shooters, 123 The Headrow, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 5RD.
Roxy Lanes
Roxy Lanes isn’t just a bowling alley with loads of cool games, it’s also a sports bar. Roxy will be streaming all of this year’s World Cup games on their 60 inch HDTVs and 3 metre wide projection screens.
Why not grab some friends and book ahead? You get VIP seats, 2 large pizzas, 4 baskets of fries and 12 cans of Red Stripe for £50.
Roxy Lanes, 1 Bond Street, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS1 5BQ
There are many more places in Leeds to catch the World Cup this year, but these are some of my favourites, and some popular student choices.
Hopefully you can visit one or two of these places and witness England repeat the historic 1966 action!
