What is Green Impacts?

This year, teams across the university will plan and deliver their own sustainability project, earning a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or the prestigious Platinum award, depending on the project’s impact. Each project will contribute towards the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, with staff (and students) working together to go green and take climate action within their school or department. Green Impact has been designed to allow teams to pursue a relevant and impactful project, no matter their discipline or where they are working from.

A team can be made up of as few or as many individuals as you like, it could be your department, office, your school and students, or a group of likeminded people from across multiple disciplines.

What are the benefits?

Last year’s 8 award winning teams had an estimated potential saving of 19,338 kg CO2 and £56,762, and 88% of participants agreed or strongly agreed that they felt good about themselves as a result of taking part in Green Impact.

What your involvement will mean

Having more people involved will allow us to reduce our impact on wildlife and pollution, reduce Carbon emissions and waste, and  foster education for sustainability with students. NUS and SOS-UK research shows that 80% of students want their institution to be doing more on sustainability, and Green Impact is one way we can respond to this demand. Student volunteers will audit the projects at the end of the year, furthering their involvement with sustainability.

All Green Impact Teams will get University-wide recognition and attend our annual awards dinner in Spring 2022 Individual team members will be able to develop transferable professional skills, try something new and make a real difference to sustainability at Leeds Beckett!
