Our support team are based at our Headingley Campus at Leeds Beckett University.

Mark Robinson

Mark Robinson

Director

Mark has been Director of Carnegie Great Outdoors since its conception in 2006. He has a huge passion for the outdoors and is an experienced kayak coach, mountaineer, climber and skier. Mark provides the vision and strategic leadership for an extensive team and network of strategic partners ensuring Carnegie Great Outdoors delivers leading outdoor programmes to educational, sporting, military, charity and business clients across the UK and overseas.

A graduate of the University of York, Mark joined Leeds Beckett in 2000 to pursue a career as a lecturer and Outdoor Instructor. He was instrumental in developing the University's outdoor academic curriculum and residential programmes which are now accessed by thousands of students annually. He still lectures on the outdoors to a variety of audiences and remains an active outdoor coach but his focus is on taking Carnegie Great Outdoors forward as a market leader.

Dave Bunting MBE

Outdoor Development Manager

Dave has been the Outdoor Development Manager of Carnegie Great Outdoors since 2010. A highly experienced practitioner in all aspects of the outdoors, Dave's main passion lies in the mountains with extensive experience in mountaineering, ski touring and climbing developed whilst working in outdoor centres and on expeditions. Dave provides expertise in the delivery of all outdoor programmes, works closely with business partners and leads on selected major projects in UK and overseas.

Dave is a former member of the Army Physical Training Corps having served 24 years. He left the military in 2008, firstly working in the Alps at an outdoor leadership centre before joining CGO. His past experience of worldwide expeditions, including 13 to the Himalayas, military service and outdoor network have expanded CGOs delivery capability into new areas, developing business and diversity across all aspects.

Operations Manager

Seb joined CGO 6 years ago as a Freelance Instructor and between trips to New Zealand, Australia, Uganda and Europe he has contributed to our growth and development taking on roles as Senior Instructor and Course Director on some of our major programmes. More recently he has been operating as a Principal Instructor in the Lake District before returning to Leeds to work within operations alongside Chris Roe and Gav Booth.

In his capacity as Operations Manager Seb works strategically across our business to lead on further enhancing our delivery capability, ensuring the on-going growth and development of our freelance team as well as having oversight of all operational aspects of the delivery of programmes on behalf of CGO, our University and our clients.

Alison Stanton

Business Support Manager

Alison joined the team in 2012 as Office Manager bringing with her a wide range of experience in client and project management, operational systems and business development. In July 2015 she progressed into the role of Business Support Manager. Alison provides management of a broad range of functions including administration, business systems and customer support services to enable Carnegie Great Outdoors to deliver a high quality service and experience to its customers. Alison is responsible for CGO’s administration and project teams and works collaboratively with CGO’s Director and Senior Managers to develop CGO’s strategic plans to enhance its services. She contributes to develop and deliver CGO’s strategic plans and provides effective implementation of new processes and ways of working. Alison was a member of Carnegie Great Outdoors' Himalayan Expedition team that trekked to Everest Base Camp in 2009.

Michaela Barwick

Programme Manager

Michaela was appointed Programme Manager for Carnegie Great Outdoors in 2014. She is a highly experienced outdoor coach with expertise in exercise rehabilitation delivery and education management. Michaela is based at The Battle Back Centre, Lilleshall overseeing delivery of all programmes there on behalf of Carnegie Great Outdoors and providing onsite liaison between key stakeholders.

Michaela served a full career in H.M.Forces where she worked extensively across the UK and overseas including the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court and the Joint Services Mountain Training Centre, Anglesey. She has been involved in kayaking and mountaineering expeditions across the Alps, Canada, South America and Nepal.

Donna Waring

Senior Projects Officer

Donna joined the Carnegie Great Outdoors team in November 2014 as Senior Projects Officer. Donna is responsible for leading and coordinating CGO projects, working to build client and partner relationships, with her primary focus being our education, youth, and charity client groups. She also coordinates our accommodation requirements with partner organisations. Donna manages events from the point of initial contact through to programme design, management of the event, and follow-up. Donna is a very keen cyclist and regularly competes in a variety of individual and team competitions and challenges.

Office Manager

Lucy joined the Carnegie Great Outdoors team in November 2013 as the Office Administrator and progressed into the role of Office Manager in September 2015. Lucy supports the Business Support Manager and other Senior Managers in the planning, development and maintenance of CGO systems. Her main responsibilities are to provide, implement and maintain high quality administrative support to both the office team and freelance instructors working out on projects. Lucy manages the financial processes within the department including raising purchase orders for services and invoicing for events. Lucy also helps manage diary scheduling, transport logistics, accommodation booking and instructor deployment.

Principal Instructor

Chris started working for CGO as a freelance instructor about 7 years ago. Since summer 2015 Chris has been part of the operations team based at Headingley Campus supporting planning, staffing and logistics.

Gavin Booth

Gavin Booth

Outdoor Instructor / Kit & Logistics Coordinator

Gavin started working for Carnegie Great Outdoors in 2008 as a Freelance Instructor and joined the office team in 2014 to oversee kit and equipment, transport and logistics. He is responsible for purchasing, scheduling and coordinating over 6000 individual equipment items and our owned and hired vehicles and he creates and fulfils kit lists to ensure the correct equipment is sent out for each activity on every programme. He manages the safety checking of all our PPE, in line with industry best practice and to enhance this process he successfully attended Lyon’s ROSPA approved; ‘4 Day PPE Inspection Competent Person’. Gavin continues to work on our outdoor programmes as an instructor delivering climbing, ghyll scrambling, mountain biking, watersports, charity abseils, hill walking and team development. He enjoys working with a diverse range of people including NCS groups, school and University students and has played a key role in the delivery, format and organisation of our Climbing Out Programmes since their inception.

Pete Scott

Office Administrator

Pete joined the Carnegie Great Outdoors team in November 2015 as the Office Administrator and his main duty is to provide high quality administration support to both the office team and freelance instructors working out on projects. Pete also helps with diary scheduling, transport logistics, accommodation booking and instructor deployment as well as providing support with financial processes within the department including raising purchase orders for kit and vehicles. Pete also has responsibility for Carnegie Great Outdoors’ social media presence. Pete is a very keen walker and is currently working towards gaining his Mountain Leader qualification.
