Clearing 2016: Millie's Story

Everyone has been so helpful and the staff have been fantastic. The accommodation team spent well over an hour on the phone to me and my mum, to track down the perfect accommodation for me

Millie's Clearing experience

"The phone was answered straight away, there was no hanging around – they talked me through the content of the course, made me a verbal offer for a place on the course and helped calm the whole situation down by telling me not to rush my decision"

Millie Heathcote, 18, from Macclesfield in Cheshire, found a place at Leeds Beckett University through Clearing and couldn’t be happier with her decision. Millie joined Leeds Beckett last September as a student on BA (Hons) Events Management. Her firm and insurance choices were to study criminology at a university in the Midlands and another in the North West. She slightly missed her predicted grades, having performed very well in her course work but not quite as well as expected in exams.

When she received her A level results she found she had not made it into her first choice university, but had been accepted into her insurance choice university. As Millie explained: “I had heard good things about Leeds Beckett, so rather than take up my insurance university place I decided to look into things a bit more.”

Millie attended a Clearing Open Day and had the chance to look round the campuses and the city. Speaking about her first impressions of Leeds, Millie said: "I just loved everything about Leeds Beckett – the people, the campuses, the course. Headingley Campus is just beautiful and the sports facilities are brilliant. I decided to release my insurance choice and accept a place a here.

“Everyone has been so helpful and the staff have been fantastic. The accommodation team spent well over an hour on the phone to me and my mum, to track down the perfect accommodation for me. I’m going to be based in the city centre, and I am looking forward to living in the city and studying at Headingley.

“Coming to the Open Day was great because I could be sure this was the place for me, and I talked to a current student who gave me a real feel for the place."

Millie, who is now enjoying a prestigious work placement with Disney, had this advice to offer students looking for a place in clearing: “Don’t panic! There are still lots of courses you can choose from. I would definitely recommend calling Leeds Beckett, the team are there to help you and they make it easy find a course which suits you because they are so kind and helpful.”
