The event, which was organised with the University’s conferencing team, Well Met Conferencing, provided delegates with the opportunity to gain core skills and knowledge, whilst also allowing them to explore how their personal values and motivations influenced their understanding of leadership. A combination of interactive workshops, networking groups and practical training sessions ensured that Exec Officers left well-equipped for the new influx of students, due to arrive in September.
The University’s own Students’ Union President, Joe Murray, attended the conference along with VP Activities, Harry Walters. Joe commented:
“We were very proud to hold the conference here at the University, it was a fantastic opportunity to meet other Exec Officers and get involved with some high intensity debates! One particular workshop that was very beneficial to me was ‘Leadership – tough love and bravery’. Here I gained an understanding of how to use my leadership alongside the leadership of the other representatives to create positive change the students we represent here at Leeds Beckett.
We also had the opportunity to be hosts for the social side of the conference, with drinks and food at the University’s City Bar, as well as other local Leeds favourites and even enjoyed a cheesy quiz night which was a brilliant opportunity to network with fellow Exec Officers.”
Clare Vidler, Conference Manager at Well Met Conferencing comments:
“We were delighted to hold the NUS’ Lead and Change conference here at Leeds Beckett University for the first time. We’re fortunate to have a truly dedicated and enthusiastic team of Exec Officers heading up the Student’s Union, and to be recognised by the NUS at their flagship training programme is a great accolade. As an academic venue, we are able to balance student needs with conferencing requirements without issue, it’s therefore of significant note that we can happily accommodate key events which require expertise in both areas.”
