North India Tibet Relief Fund

After a successful first year, we are growing our project with well-established UK charity, Tibet Relief Fund (TRF). TRF have been supporting Tibetan Refugee communities since the late 1950’s and work to deliver funding programmes to provide healthcare and education.

Volunteer Role(s):

We are looking for volunteers with either experience of, or a passion for working with children and young people. Volunteers will run activities with an educational emphasis, this may include games, crafts, English teaching, sports, reading, writing and working with children with special educational needs. There is also the opportunity for experienced/ final year physiotherapists to develop and deliver a programme with school staff to support physically disabled pupils. Volunteers will work in pairs to deliver activities in Ngoenga school for the disabled and mainstream TRF schools across the following themes:

  • teaching & education studies;
  • social work & youth development;
  • play work;
  • sports and PE;
  • counselling and therapeutic studies;
  • arts therapy;
  • Physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

Project location: Dehradun and Mussoorie, North India

Duration: 2 weeks, 2 days volunteering plus 5 day tour

Project dates: August 2017

Team size: 9-15

Cost: from £1,200 for three weeks including flights, accommodation, meals, local transport, cultural activities, (budget) Golden Triangle Tour and travel insurance. Actual cost is £1,450 and all first time volunteers will receive a £250 bursary from the University!

Fundraising: £100 to contribute directly to the charity that you will be working with.
