Placement years are a great way to build experience and get a feel for working in a professional environment. Completing a 12 month sandwich placement gives you the opportunity to try a particular career path for an extended period, helping you to understand if it's right for you and gain a better idea of what it takes to succeed in that type of role.
Gaining this experience during your degree can be really valuable and we see many of our students return for their final year with a greater sense of confidence, having gained new skills and feeling motivated towards their next steps. A placement can often help you to decide what you want to do after graduating (or in some cases, what you don’t want to do!) - both of which are incredibly useful in terms of your career planning.
There are so many placement options out there, from 12 month sandwich placements to shorter placements lasting a few months or weeks. Sandwich years can be suited well to some students and industries, but for others, a few shorter placements through summer or part-time whilst studying might be better a fit, especially if you want to try a few different things. Our Placements Officers can discuss your options and help you to figure out what’s right for you, as well as any requirements needed for your course.
Whichever route you choose, we can support you every step of the way to build your experience and help you to stand out in the graduate market. Find out more about your placement options by checking out our placements page.
