Charanga del Norte

Dr Sue Miller from the School of Film, Music & Performing Arts will be directing Charange del Norte as they launch their new EP Charanga Time.

Charanga Time showcases a New York-styled charanga set. Expect pachanga, bugalu, and New York infused Afro-Cuban dance music styles by the likes of Charlie and Eddie Palmieri, Johnny Pacheco, Ray Barretto, Mongo Santamaria, Orquesta Broadway and Pete Rodríguez. 

This EP launch performance relates to research done by Sue Miller into Latin music in New York.  All the new arrangements are of work analysed in her forthcoming book for the University Press of Mississippi entitled 'Improvising Sabor: Afro-Cuban Dance Music in New York .'

The EP was recorded by MA Production student Paul Brown and mixed and mastered by Production lecturers Dr Paul Thompson and Michael Ward.
