ICRETH Assemblies: Migrant agency, resource transformation and the creation of hospitable spaces

ICRETH assemblies combine seminars offered by guest-speakers with research meetings whereby current developments in our fields are discussed by all academic colleagues.

2018 – 2019 Assemblies Theme*

ICRETH Assemblies are an aggregate of seminars and research meetings organised around one main theme. The theme for the academic year 2018/2019 is Diversity within Events, Tourism, and Hospitality. This a theme left broad by design so that guest speakers will be able to tackle it from their preferred standpoint. In this academic year, ICRETH and our School will submit an application for the Athena Swan Bronze Medal (part of the Equality Charter Unit), and as such we want to generate more discussions and raise more awareness to the importance of diversity, internationalisation, inclusion, gender, intersectionality and such like in our research, and in academia in general.

Assemblies Format

ICRETH assemblies combine seminars offered by guest-speakers with research meetings whereby current developments in our fields are discussed by all academic colleagues. The guest-speakers are invited to present for 30 – 45 minutes. Afterward, the moderator will engage the speaker and audience in questions and debates about the discussed topic and cognate ICRETH-related matters. Discussions are encouraged to continue over working lunch.

*For guests outside of the School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management please contact icreth@leedsbeckett.ac.uk two weeks in advance each Assembly to register your attendance. All Assemblies will take place in Headingley Campus, Leeds.
