The Tool Emporium
New video and sound works by Graphic Arts & Design students from Leeds Beckett University exploring the shift from analogue to digital tools, presented in the former Mr. Arkwright's Tool Emporium. All welcome.
We are really happy to collaborate with East Street Arts on this project as part of their transformation of a former hardware shop into a making, showing and social space in the heart of Leeds city centre. When Mr Arkwright’s Tool Emporium closed last year, the Yorkshire Post noted that it ‘was known for its traditional look, hand-painted signs and more than 7,000 products aimed at builders and DIY lovers.’ As a new creative pop-up space, we saw it as a fantastic opportunity to invite first year Graphic Arts and Design students to think about the shift from analogue to digital tools. They will be presenting a series of short films made in the space and our workshops, thinking about acts of hammering, cutting, welding, casting, etching and carving. It will be noisy and full of movement!
