Pioneering Practice: Celebrating 10 years of responsible tourism

At Leeds Beckett University we're celebrating both 10 years of delivering our MSc Responsible Tourism Management course and the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, which aims to support a change in policies, business practices and consumer behaviour, with a view to create a more sustainable tourism sector. . Join us at this event and learn about pioneering responsible tourism practice from around the world.

The morning conference programme will focus on practical strategies for managing the interaction between tourists and local people. Keynote speakers will share their leading practice from Australia to Myanmar.

The conference will address how innovative approaches to tour guiding, visitor management, interpretation, volunteer guidelines, participatory planning and managing hassle can create a conducive environment for positive encounters, which can maximise local benefit through tourism.

The afternoon programme with comprise an ‘Alumni Spotlight’ where an impressive line-up of former students will share their responsible tourism success stories, heroic failures and 'ideas on the go’ - with opportunity for audience feedback and questions.
