Professor Andrew Slade, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Interim Dean

Welcome to our Carnegie Faculty with its 80 year history in education and strong reputation for excellence. We offer a wide range of very popular undergraduate and postgraduate courses in our three Schools, providing distinctive pathways for our students to meet their vocational requirements. Research and consultancy activities underpin our teaching, with academic staff being recognised as experts within their fields. The quality of this research is evident in the outstanding results achieved in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework with strong submissions in Unit 25 (Education) and in Unit 26 (Sport and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism), where we ranked 2nd nationally when accounting for both research quality and the number of contributing staff.

Our innovative courses provide students with an exceptional learning experience through high quality research-informed teaching. Our Faculty works in strong and effective partnerships with a wide range of international, national and regional employers across Education, Languages, Sport, Tourism and related sectors, providing work-related placement learning opportunities and ensuring high-levels of employment for our Graduates.

Black tie ball set to launch student’s mental health initiative

A new not-for-profit social enterprise, set up by a Leeds Beckett University student and providing mental health support to young people in Bradford, is set to be launched at a black tie event on Saturday 29 October.

New study makes recommendations for UK physical activity policy

New research from academics at Leeds Beckett University suggests changes are needed to the government-recommended guidelines of at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) each week. They propose a more realistic target of getting people to do more physical activity than they currently do, especially among those who are inactive.
