Graduate Success Stories

Samantha Auckland
District nurse Samantha was looking to progress her career – she wanted to find a senior position where she could still operate on the clinical side too.

Samantha had been in nursing for over 20 years and was working within a district nursing team, where she managed individual cases and worked with people in their own homes, including patients with long term conditions such as diabetes, arthritis and heart failure.

A position became available which required further study, so Samantha applied and started her search for a suitable course that could allow her to fulfil the role. The course at Leeds Beckett appealed and matched her criteria as it focused on the skills she needed, such as advanced clinical skills and nurse prescribing.

Samantha found studying and working at the same time challenging, but agrees it was definitely worthwhile as it provided her with a formal qualification and allows her to keep her options open in the healthcare industry where situations can constantly change.

Speaking about the benefits her study has had on her career, Samantha said: "I’d been working for a number of years and was ready to develop myself further. My postgraduate qualification has given me the opportunity to progress to a more senior role. I’m now able to do so much more, such as prescribing medications directly, which has made life much easier for my patients.”
