Elettra's Story

Elettra is from Italy and applied for her course BA (Hons) Public Relations through Clearing. Elettra spent six months studying overseas as part of her degree. She has also travelled to New York for her one-year work placement.

A lot of Leeds Beckett graduates gain very good internships at PR agencies, so I'm confident that my course will give me the skills to achieve my dream job in PR.

Why I chose to study PR at Leeds Beckett University

I wanted to study PR in the UK and Leeds Beckett offered a course with practical experience. The opportunity to have hands-on experience is not something we have in Italy. My friends back home just study, read and do exams, so I feel lucky to be studying here.

One of the best things about my course are the guest lecturers. Finding out about their careers and experience has been inspiring. We analysed well-known PR campaigns examining how effective they were. I got the chance to create new campaigns and be a PR practitioner for the day, which was fascinating.

Living in Leeds

The city of Leeds is full of students and there are so many things to do. There are a lot of green areas. I like walking around Hyde Park which is on the doorstep of where I live. Leeds is a nice place to shop and browse the city centre. There is always something going on like street performances, food stands and exhibitions.

The activities during International Arrival help students feel welcome. This is important if you are studying in another country for the first time. The social activities at Leeds Beckett have been great for me! I attend lots of societies and events, and I'm now an International Student Ambassador.

What I'm most proud of

Becoming an International Student Ambassador. It’s helped me to meet people. I was so worried about making friends when I arrived. It’s nice to help people with their own worries and make their experience as smooth as possible. It makes me happy when people get in touch with me to thank me for helping them settle in.
