Information for Staff, Alumni and Charities/Organisations
Being a team leader on an international volunteering project is a rewarding but challenging experience and a great opportunity to develop yourself. No two projects are the same and the same team leader often has a very different experience on the same project the second year they participate. It's not always a straightforward task - some have found it extremely challenging and other less so but most describe it as intense, really good fun and an overall great developmental experience.
Staff must seek approval from their line manager and volunteering time is taken as annual leave. We can support you to do the role, including training which will be accredited by ILM and after coming your assignment you will receive an ILM Level 3 award in Managing Volunteers. You may wish to include the role as a development opportunity and include within your annual PDR We need Team Leaders, who must be Leeds Beckett members of staff to lead our 2017 projects. If you are interested in applying for the role please get in touch by emailing email@example.com.
We are also holding some information sessions, where you can come find out more about the projects we are recruiting for, what is involved in the role, what happens with annual leave and ask any questions that you have before applying.
The sessions are as follows:
06/09/2016 12:00 – 13:00 Carnegie Pavilion 421, Headingley Stadium
07/09/2016 12:00 – 13:00 James Graham LTD, Headingley Campus
Please feel free to bring along your lunch, if you would to attend, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, just so we know who to expect.
Application deadline: Monday 12th September 2016, noon.
Team Leader Interview dates are as follows (need approx 30 mins per applicant):
13th September 9-12 City Campus
14th September 13-16 Headingley Campus
15th September 9-12 Headingley Campus
We will be asking people for their preferred time slots.
We would welcome the opportunity to come and talk to your students, we offer anything from a quick 10 minute talk to an hour's lecture on how volunteering can help with their employability skills. Please email email@example.com to arrange.
Our international volunteering opportunities can help as an alternative placement for a student, all the team would be happy to complete any necessary paperwork for the student's placement.
Apply to become one of our international volunteers: all our projects are open to both students and staff. Staff receive a £200 discount on their first international volunteering project and will go through the same application and selection procedure as students.
We also offer staff small one off local volunteering projects that teams could use as part of their team building and development program, if you are interested please contact Cara McCosh on firstname.lastname@example.org.
We welcome alumni to join our projects up to five years after they graduate, you are eligible for the same amount of bursary as a student on your first volunteering project and you will be covered by the University insurance policy. You have to apply and attend the selection events/team meeting like the rest of the team in order to qualify for a place. Please see more information about our projects.
If you have been a volunteer and loved your experience think about applying to be one of our big brother/big sister roles. These volunteers are given more responsibilities and help the team leader before and during the project. This is a great way to gain more leadership and project management skills and will give you experience of recruitment & selection, planning and taking part in another brilliant international volunteering experience.
As this is quite hard work we offer the big brother/big sister 50% bursary towards the cost of the volunteering project. If you are interested please contact email@example.com.
