Let Leeds Read
Let Leeds Read is a partnership project between Leeds Beckett University and Leeds Beckett Students’ Union providing rewarding volunteering opportunities for students in a school environment. This is a reading project working with local primary & secondary schools where student volunteers work 1-on 1 with children listening to them read with the aim of increasing their reading age over a 8-10 week period.
Volunteering in and around Leeds
We advertise loads of local volunteering opportunities with charities, voluntary organisations and community groups. You can access these through the My Hub website along with lots of paid employment opportunities. Just sign in with your student or staff log in details. For a summary of volunteering opportunities available please look at the volunteering positions in the right hand column.
Students Union volunteering
The Students' Union facilitates student-led, community driven volunteer action projects. We can help you to lead your own project or work with fellow students on projects that benefit kids & youth, older people and the environment. Some projects required a regular weekly commitment whereas others are more about the planning leading up to an event or just helping at the event itself. How much time you give is up to you! We also have some exciting new opportunities within the Students’ Union itself volunteering alongside our Events Team. If you’d like to get experience of running big events, and/ or technical experience such as lighting and sound then we have the opportunities for you!
Carnegie sports volunteering
Another way to develop a range of useful skills whilst at university, to increase your career and employability chances, and to develop your knowledge and experience within the sports industry is through sports volunteering. You can register onto the Carnegie Sports Volunteer Programme for a range of sports-related opportunities in a range of different areas. There's something for everyone - from coaching to sports development, officiating to event management. It's free to sign up, and there are benefits and awards available no matter how many hours you to.
Doing Good Leeds
The Volunteer Centre has links with loads of community groups and charities across the city. It's based in the city centre and you can drop in (no appointment needed) to talk to someone about the kind of volunteer work you want to do and what's available for you.
