10 Reasons You'll Love Living In Leeds

Leeds is a vibrant, fun city, full of amazing nightspots, shops, eateries and cultural corners (and the people are great too). If that’s not enough, here are our top 10 reasons why living in Leeds is brilliant:

1. It's big, but easy to find your way around

Leeds city centre is compact enough to get around on foot easily and it only takes half an hour to walk from one side of the city centre to the other. But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t got much going on. It’s tightly packed full of amazing buildings, delicious eateries, diverse nightspots, a huge array of shops and cultural delights. You really can pack a lot into one day here.

2. We've got one of the biggest city parks in Europe

Leeds is home to the magnificent Roundhay Park, one of the biggest city parks in Europe. It’s got two gorgeous lakes, a selection of places to eat and a huge, green hill that’s perfect for sunbathing on or sledging down (weather-depending). There’s also plenty of woodland to explore and a huge outside area where festivals and music concerts take place. We’ve also got the gorgeous Woodhouse Moor at Hyde Park, which is a student haven on sunny days.

3. We've got not one, but two independent cinemas

Leeds is home to two independent cinemas - Hyde Park Picture House and Cottage Road. Both are set in stunning old buildings and retain many of their original features, adding an element of old-school glamour to cinema outings. And if you’re after something a little more contemporary, then try Everyman in Trinity where you watch films from comfy sofas and pizza is delivered to your seat.

4. The nightlife is brilliant

Nightlife is so good here because there’s so much to choose from. We’ve got hundreds of independent bars, world-class clubs and all sorts of interesting and unusual pop up events happening all the time. Whatever your taste, you’ll find something to suit in Leeds (plus there’s a ton of student nights to choose from, so making new friends is easy).

5. Our music scene is huge

If you love music, then Leeds is for you. It’s in our DNA. We’ve got a massive arena where you can catch the really big acts, several medium-sized venues where you can see your favourite bands, and smaller, more intimate venues, like the Brudenell Social Club, where you can get up close and personal with your favourite artists. Pop, rock, indie, house or techno, we really have got it all in Leeds.

6. Our shopping arcades are the prettiest

Leeds is home to a massive collection of shops and lots of them are under jaw-droppingly gorgeous ornate arcades. From every high-street name you can think of, to brilliant independents and high-end boutiques and department stores, we’ve got it all. Go designer in Victoria Quarter, independent or vintage in the Corn Exchange, or more mainstream in Trinity. There’s also the brand spanking new Victoria Gate Shopping Centre, which boasts the largest John Lewis outside London.

7. We've got Britain's favourite market

Kirkgate Market on Vicar Lane is an absolute gem. Set in a stunning Grade I listed building, it’s one of Europe’s largest indoor markets and home to some of the most characterful traders there are. There are stalls selling everything from well-priced fresh food to flowers, hardware and haberdashery - plus there are loads of good places to eat. It’s so special, it’s been voted ‘Britain’s Favourite Market’ for the last two years running.
