A Leeds Beckett University student has signed for one of the most famous and successful clubs in women’s football.

Kirsty Hanson has joined Doncaster Rovers Belles ahead of their FA Women’s Super League (FA WSL) 2 Spring Series campaign which starts in February.

First year BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching student Kirsty plays either as a striker or winger and has starred for the Leeds Beckett women’s first team this year, scoring nine goals.

Speaking about signing for the Belles, Kirsty said: “I’m really excited. It takes some adapting at the moment because it’s my first time training full-time.

“It’s high-tempo and hopefully it will develop me as a player.”

Kirsty, from Halifax, took up the game from a young age after joining a kickabout with boys on her street.

She has represented Scotland at youth levels and spent a 2016 loan spell with Sheffield FC, making 10 appearances in FA WSL 2.

Kirsty links up with Leeds Beckett University Women’s Football & Futsal Head Coach Emma Coates, who is also the Belles’ boss.

“Playing for the University team has been good,” Kirsty added.

“It’s the first time I have worked with Emma and she’s a really good coach.”

The Belles won the FA Women's Premier League National Division in 1992 and 1994 and have won the FA Women's Cup six times.

Their first FA WSL 2 Spring Series match is away to Sheffield FC Ladies on 12 February.
