“I am really proud of Doncaster and absolutely resolute in my commitment to the borough and its people. Achieving the best possible outcomes for Doncaster’s residents and businesses is what has driven me throughout my time as Mayor, and way before that, and will continue to push me on. Personally I am delighted, however I am clear that this recognition is testament to Team Doncaster and all our efforts to make Doncaster a wonderful place to live in. I know that my late husband Alan, who was a Doncaster councillor, will be smiling down and I also honour his memory with this award. I would like to also send my congratulations to Esther Mathews for being recognised with a BEM for services to Canoeing. It is a great start to 2017 for the borough and I am determined it will continue.”
Colin Glass, who received an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration in 2016 was awarded an OBE for services to business start-ups and entrepreneurship.
Speaking to the Business Desk, he said: "I have always been passionate about helping create and grow small companies, which are more than ever the lifeblood of the economy," he said. "I feel very proud when I think of the jobs and exports created by the companies in which I have been involved.
"At the end of the day it is all about the people involved in these companies and I have been privileged to work with some talented entrepreneurs and business men and women. I want to make special mention of my partners, past and present and all my colleagues at WGN, which we started from scratch in 1975 with a mission to create and grow small companies into sustainable businesses. We continue that mission today."
