IT Services staff conference
3 January 2018 - Katie Langford
IT Services held its first internal staff conference on 13 December at Cloth Hall Court which was attended attended by over 150 staff.
The event featured speakers from external companies, other universities, internal management, academics and some of our students.
The day opened with a keynote from Professor Paul Smith and Professor Phil Cardew. This set the tone for the conference of being one about learning and adapting to changes within our university and beyond.
The primary focus was on creating more adaptive work environments and how vital IT Services is to the future of our university.
One of the highlights of the day was our ‘Room 101’ session featuring two academics and two students of Leeds Beckett University.
The idea was for them to each list three technical products or services that they dislike or find difficult to use.
They gave IT staff an insight into their feelings on various technology and systems from Google to projectors to encryption. This was a fun and informative session that enabled delegates to get a new perspective on the technology we deliver and how we can continue to evolve to meet our customer’s needs.
The day was considered a great success, with the opportunity to learn from our peers, inspirational speakers and sector leaders all working together to reaffirm our strength as a team.
Staff were highly engaged on Twitter and our hashtag was trending for Leeds during the event.
