The event, which was part of a series of guest lectures held by Leeds Business School and sponsored by Yorkshire Bank, was held on Tuesday 3 March at the University's Rose Bowl.
A senior leader in the field of cultural tourism, Dominic has extensive experience in strategic development, business planning, organisational restructuring, change management and visitor attraction consultancy. A renowned academic specialising in medieval art, he is also a visiting professor to the University of London, and lectures internationally. Previously a leading member of the York Archaeological Trust, he was instrumental in developing the Yorvik Centre.

Dominic has been Director General at the National Museum of the Royal Navy – Britain’s newest national museum - since January 2009. The museum brings together the four leading Naval Museums: The Royal Naval Museum, the Royal Marines Museum and the Royal Naval Submarine Museum all in Portsmouth and the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton.
Prior to this he enjoyed a career in academia, the charity sector and in business.
Paul Houghton, Principal Lecturer in Leeds Beckett’s Faculty of Business and Law, who organises the lecture series, said: “Dominic’s wealth of experience in business and the charitable sector made for a really interesting debate.
“Dominic has held various significant professional positions including Assistant Director of the York Archaeological Trust, where he was responsible for the care and curation of the collections, research and publication and public presentation. While at the Trust he was part of the team directing the development of the Jorvik Viking Centre.
“Following his departure from the Trust in 1995, he bought two of its commercial enterprises - a design business and a multimedia business – which he successfully developed and merged into the Continuum Group, which operated visitor attractions.”
The remaining speakers in the lecture series are: Sara and Andy Micklethwaite, who joined forces and bought food chain Bagel Nash in 2011 on Tuesday 21 April and Kirsty Bashforth, Group Head of Organisational Effectiveness at BP on Tuesday 5 May.
