Recruitment of Mauritius CSC scholarships
Lucy McCombes, Research Fellow in the School of Events, Tourism Hospitality and Languages at Leeds Beckett, said: “Within the travel and tourism industry, there is an increasing focus on the need to adopt responsible business practices that improve the quality of life for communities and conserve the environment and local cultures. This course helps meet the resulting demand for managers with the ability to implement responsible strategies within marketing, operations and product development.”
This is the only Responsible Tourism course in the world that is certified by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) TedQual programme.
The course is aimed at early to mid-career tourism professionals who will be able to study part-time over three years. This will allow them to apply their learning to their workplace and make a contribution to local economic development/poverty reduction through delivering responsible tourism. It is taught by staff with first-hand experience in tourism management, research and consultancy, who will share their global expertise.
Lucy added: “We are now recruiting ten high-quality postgraduate students who are citizens of Mauritius, Seychelles or Zanzibar who wish to access training not available in their home countries, or need to remain in their home country while they study. They will have the potential to enhance the development of their home countries with the knowledge and leadership skills they acquire.”
These places have been funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), with the aim of contributing to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests, supporting excellence in UK higher education, and sustaining the principles of the Commonwealth. They are a great opportunity for Leeds Beckett and RBS to develop their partnership and build a professional network of responsible tourism practitioners and researchers in the region.
Scholarships include all tuition fees, fieldtrips and the cost of flights for those students selected from outside of Mauritius.
