University tennis aces regional awards
Paul Bennett, Head of Region, Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) North, presented the award to Paul Johnson, University Tennis Co-ordinator and Ambassador, Danny Jones, in recognition of the club’s vision to develop people as players, coaches or volunteers - the sport of tennis is a vehicle to learn life skills.
In a letter to Louise Assioun, Sport Business Manager, Paul Bennett wrote: “On behalf of the LTA, Aegon and Yorkshire I am delighted to inform you that you have been named the North Regional Education Award winner.
“The regional judging team picked you from a strong field of County winners and would like to pass on their congratulations on achieving this award. This is a fantastic achievement.”
On receiving the letter, Louise commented: “I am extremely proud of everyone who has contributed in helping us to achieve this award and who have developed the programme. The blended learning platform we have created in the centre, ensures that everyone, young and old, has the opportunity to develop and join in.”
As regional winners, the tennis club is now in contention to be named the winner of the National Education Award at the Aegon British Tennis Awards. If successful, they will be invited by the LTA to attend a national ceremony held in London in June 2016.
