Film, Music & Performing Arts May Good News
Film
A Hollywood film revealing the truth about the last two years of Jayne Mansfield's life, premiered in Leeds on 19 May at the Hyde Park Picture House. The film features over 100 students and staff from Leeds Beckett in roles such as dancers, performance artists, associate producers, sound designers, and film crew. Andrew Fryer, Dean of the School of Film, Music and Performing Arts, said: “This film showcases the quality and range of talent in the School." Leeds Beckett were involved in almost every aspect, and Andrew was delighted with all the students and staff for being involved in such a fantastic film.
BA (Hons) Filmmaking has been awarded the Creative Skillset Tick. The course accreditation informs potential students about the high quality and relevance of industry skills they can expect to learn when they choose our course
Music
Senior Lecturer, Ken Scott, was recently interviewed about his experiences in recording studios such as Abbey Road. Ken speaks about working with legendary artists like The Beatles and David Bowie, as well as how he got into the business. You can read the full interview at Reverb.com.
On 25 April, world renowned percussion soloist Ivana Bilic conducted an open lecture on improvisation, in collaboration with Leeds Beckett's Free Improv group. This was directly followed by an open Master Class with the Afro-Colombian Drumming Group and the Percussion Ensemble.
Dance
To celebrate the International Day of Dance on 29 April, the Leeds Big Screen showcased dance films from Performing Arts students, and students from the Northern Film school.

Congratulations to Alumni
Phillip Faryna who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Filmmaking in 2017, has secured a permanent position working for Walmart in the Creative Communications Department, in the Film and Artwork production team. Philip found the job through Myhub. Meanwhile, Rob Burnell, who also graduated from the same course in 2017 has secured a contract working in the sound department on ITV1 soap Emmerdale.
Rebecca Cray who graduated in 2015, has become an Assistant Producer on the Great British Bake off.
