Leeds Beckett academics to exhibit at Hebden Bridge Arts Festival
Entitled Hebden Water, the work is that of artist and Senior Lecturer in Landscape Architecture, Trudi Entwistle and sound recordist and Principal Lecturer in Music and Sound, Paul Ratcliff. It will be held at the National Trust’s Gibson Mill from Saturday 24 June to Wednesday 19 July.
“Both Paul and I work within the natural environment, and the aim of our collaboration is to creatively explore the fusion of audio and visual aesthetic and to capture the essence of a landscape and culture shaped by water,” said Trudi.
“The installation consists of a sound and projected photographic narrative that combine, to lead us along a watercourse from the valley bottom in Hebden Bridge to a point high in the surrounding moors. The content is in response to the festival’s theme of water.”
Paul, added: “Consideration of wellbeing underpins the composition. Life in a visual world can be so over-stimulating that the subtleties of sound may be ignored or even lost. However, sound is of great importance in connecting us to our surroundings and a common technique of meditation is simply to close one’s eyes and concentrate on the ambient aural environment. Natural environments deliver restorative benefits and our installation will place sound as the major sensory experience.”
Hebden Water will be celebrated with a special launch event on the evening of Friday 23 June, opening to the public the following day.
