Sealed with a kiss
Described by the star as having ‘dulcet tones’, Poppy dueted with Seal to perform a couple of Bob Marley covers, as well as Seal’s Grammy award-winning song, Kiss from a Rose, which was featured on the soundtrack to the movie Batman Forever in 1995.
The former Leeds Beckett student, who graduated in 2015 with a BA (Hons) in Music Production, was then asked to open the star's sold-out Manchester show at Bridgewater Hall that same evening.

Twenty-three-year old Poppy, who lives in Blackley, Manchester, described the whole day as a “surreal whirlwind”, but is hoping the chance meeting will help catapult her own career: “I still feel a bit numb really, like it hasn’t sunk in,” said Poppy: “It was a dream come true.”
Close to giving up for the day after repeated torrential downpours hammered the city, Poppy added: “The weather was so bad I nearly packed up and went home, but I’m glad I didn’t now!”
Andrew Fryer, Head of School for The School of Film, Music and Performing Arts, added: “Even international superstars recognise the performing talent of our music graduates and can't wait to work with them! Well done to Poppy for seizing the opportunity as a true professional. I'm sure this will lead to great things ahead for her and we will soon be hearing much more from Poppy Waterman-Smith.”
Self-taught guitarist Poppy, who also gigs with the band Ladies Darts Night, can be followed on Twitter at @poppyws or Facebook at Poppy Waterman-Smith.
