Leeds Beckett support Yorkshire Sculpture International
The Yorkshire Sculpture International will feature exhibitions of world-leading international artists staged throughout the Hepworth gallery, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Leeds Art Gallery and Henry Moore Institute.
The YSI is running until 29 September 2019.
Lisa Stansbie, Dean of the School of Art, Architecture and Design at Leeds Beckett, said: “We are excited to be involved in a project of this calibre and size, and to help celebrate sculpture across Yorkshire.
“We are incredibly lucky to have the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangulate on our doorstep, and to help promote sculpture.
“The programme will involve extensive engagement from schools, Leeds Beckett, University of Leeds, local communities and fellow artists. It gives us an opportunity to come together and promote the great art we create in Yorkshire, and to hopefully inspire the next generation of artists.”
The project will also include major new outdoor sculptures across Leeds and Wakefield in unexpected places across the cities.
It will form part of the programme for ‘The Year of Sculpture’ starting in September 2018, and is being supported by Arts Council England, Leeds City Council and Wakefield Council.
Sir Nicholas Serota, Chair of Arts Council England, said: “Arts Council England is delighted to be supporting the first edition of Yorkshire Sculpture International. The Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle is already considered the UK’s home of sculpture, and this event will put the region on the international map as a must-visit cultural destination.
“I am looking forward to seeing contemporary sculpture not only in Leeds and Wakefield’s world-class galleries but also in the public realm.”
