University listed in top 50 of Academic Ranking of World Universities
This reflects the quality and quantity of research undertaken that is relevant to these sectors of the economy.
The School emphasises conducting research to advance knowledge and inspire new perspectives on responsible leadership of events, tourism and hospitality organisations. This is particularly relevant in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
An aspiration to act as a positive influence on the kind of tourism, events and hospitality sectors that subsequently emerge in the ‘new normal’ is leading to research that will increasingly coalesce around the following themes:
- Recovery and the future development - This theme encompasses the economics of tourism and events, public policy interventions and stakeholder recovery, and the potential of AI and other technologies to manage the sector.
- Responsible events, tourism and hospitality - This theme encompasses sustainable environmental management, response to climate change, shaping responsible consumer behaviour and questions of social justice associated with events and tourism.
- Effective management of events, tourism and hospitality organisations - This encompasses key management challenges facing public, private and not-for-profit organisations.
Professor Rhodri Thomas (pictured), Dean of The School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management, said: “I am delighted for my colleagues that our research has again been recognised as being up there with the best in the world.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities is particularly discriminating because it emphasises peer-reviewed research and grants. We use our cutting-edge research to stimulate our students and help inform the practices of interested stakeholders.”
