Leeds Beckett launch new short courses in art and design
The Leeds School of Art, Architecture & Design at Leeds Beckett are offering courses in digital photography, Photoshop for fashion and textile design as well as pattern cutting in their specialist facilities in Broadcasting Place. The courses for adults are aimed at different levels from beginners to experienced practitioners.
The three-day digital photography course is aimed at beginners, costs £210 and runs on 23 September, 30 September and 7 October and will provide attendees with an overview of digital photography principles and techniques. The course is suitable for complete beginners and for those wishing to refresh their knowledge in a friendly and supportive learning environment. The course will introduce attendees to the basic principles of digital photography including the fundamentals of photography such as composition, exposure and lighting. The course will also include basic Photoshop editing and how to prepare images for print.
The two-day Photoshop for Fashion and Textile Design course is aimed at professionals and will introduce attendees to some exciting and innovative new methods for working with this industry standard software. It will run on 12 and 13 September and costs £500. Attendees will learn to manipulate, re-colour and repeat artwork alongside preparing engineered print designs to fit specific pattern pieces. In addition to textile related techniques they will also learn to creatively edit fashion illustrations, using scanned fabrics and surfaces alongside hand rendered techniques. The course will introduce methods of developing 3D work on the stand using Photoshop, including digital manipulation of shape and silhouette and digital draping to generate a range of design ideas.
The three-day Pattern Cutting course is aimed at beginners and runs from 12-14 September and costs £500. It will introduce attendees to the principles and techniques so that they may increase their confidence, knowledge and skills to produce industry standard patterns.
The course will focus on the fundamentals of pattern development such as, bodice and skirt block manipulation to industrial standard. Following this, attendees will be guided through the pattern cutting process to produce a bodice and skirt block from their own measurement.
