Leeds Beckett alumni feature in city-wide Rainbow Plaque Trail
The trail, put together by the Leeds Civic Trust and the Leeds LGBT+ Hub, will launch at this year’s Leeds Pride festival which takes place on Sunday 5 August.
Other locations included in the Rainbow Plaque Trail include The Regent pub on Kirkgate and the Grove pub in Holbeck, which is renowned for being one of the first pubs in Leeds to host LGBT+ friendly events in the 70s.
Soft Cell members Marc Almond and David Ball met whilst studying Fine Art at our university (then Leeds Polytechnic). They had a smash hit in 1981 with their cover of Gloria Jones’ ‘Tainted Love’, which reached number one in 17 countries.
The Soft Cell plaque can be found on the side of the Students’ Union, next to our Leslie Silver Building.
Other Leeds heroes honoured in the trail include Alan Bennett, Nicola Adams and theatre director Cyril Livingstone.
This weekend will be the twelfth Leeds Pride. All staff and students are welcome to march with us – see here for more information.
