Leeds Beckett students shine at Audio and Radio Industry Awards
Pictured with the Kaiser Chiefs are students Ben Hannis, Jenny Hall and Luke Hassan.
The ceremony was hosted by DJ and Presenter Sara Cox and celebrated talent in the radio and audio industry across 16 categories, showcasing the very best in creativity, excellence, and innovation.
Leeds band The Kaiser Chiefs – which includes two former Leeds Beckett students, Ricky Wilson and Andrew White – posed with Leeds Beckett students after their sound check yesterday prior to the evening’s red-carpet event.
Through the University’s support of the event 35 roles were secured for students across events, journalism, music and film roles, allowing them to help them gain valuable industry experience and an insight into their chosen careers.
Ben, who is studying BSc (Hons) Music Technology, said: “I wanted to get experience and I was keen to see what goes on behind the scenes at an event like this, rather than what you see being a viewer of it.”
Luke, who also studies BSc (Hons) Music Technology, added: “I thought getting involved would give me good experience in working with professionals – getting used to how quick they work, seeing what the tempo is and what the industry standard is so I know what to expect.”
The University also held a series of masterclasses on the Headingley Campus during the afternoon for school students from around the region, to give them a taste of various subjects related to the audio and radio industry and inspire their future career choices - sessions included journalism, music production, performing for radio and broadcast media.
