Orthopaedic sports medicine conference to be held at Leeds Beckett University
The one-day conference, which takes place at the internationally-renowned Carnegie School of Sport at the Headingley Campus on Thursday 16 November, is aimed at orthopaedic surgeons, sports physicians, GPs, osteopaths, physiotherapists and healthcare professionals working in sports medicine.
The event, which is being held in partnership with Ramsay Health Care, will be chaired by Professor Ernest Schilders and will feature several guest speakers including Dr Phil O’Connor, Professor Bill Ribbans, Mr Peter Rosenfield, Professor Len Funk and Dr John Tanner. Renowned speakers from the world of professional football such as Dr Bryan English, James Moore and Dr Carl Todd are also included.
The day will be split into different sessions – foot and ankle, shoulder, spine and hamstring, hip and groin, and knee. The sessions are chaired by leading experts: Nick Harris, Adam Budgen, Simon Boyle, Martyn Speight, Steve Bollen and Nick London. Examples of topics covered during the conference are ankle instability, cuff tears in athletes, how to treat hamstring injuries, the use of DEXA in sports and paediatric and youth ACL injury prevention and treatment.
Speaking about the conference, Professor Schilders said: “This is the first initiative of the Carnegie School of Sport’s orthopaedic sports medicine research group. We have invited internationally-renowned speakers and state-of–the-art topics will be presented, as well as engrossing new research for the sports medicine world.
“With encouragement of interaction for the participations during the discussions, the conference will provide an excellent knowledge update for specialists in sports medicine.”
