Queen's Birthday Honours for LBU graduates
Lilian Black, who completed an MBA at Leeds Beckett in 1995 has been awarded an OBE for services to Holocaust Education for her work as the Chair of the Holocaust Survivors Friendship Association. Lilian, whose father Eugene is a Holocaust survivor, has worked tirelessly to ensure that survivors and their families are able to live fruitful and meaningful lives, and to work with schools and in the community around Holocaust education, including creating the Holocaust Exhibition and Learning Centre at the University of Huddersfield.
Farrah Khan completed a Diploma of Higher Education in Social Work in 2002 and has been recognised with an MBE for her work at Leeds City Council supporting children and families in Leeds. As Head of Service Delivery for Children’s Services, Farrah plays a key role in ensuring that children and their families in Leeds receive the support they need so that they can make the best start in life.
Paul Devlin, who completed an MSc in Stroke Practice in 2017 has also been awarded an MBE for services to the Occupational Therapy profession and healthcare. Paul previously received a Merit Award in 2016 recognising his special contribution to the profession.
Graduate, honorary graduate, and former Chancellor of Leeds Beckett University Brendan Foster was knighted for his services to international and national sport and culture in North East England. Brendan was a Gold medal winner in the 10,000m at the 1978 Commonwealth Games and the 1974 European Championships. Following his athletic career he enjoyed success in sports commentary. Brendan also founded the Great North Run in 1981, to date the race has had over one million finishers and participants raise over £25 million for charities each year.
Honorary graduate Liv Garfield was awarded a CBE for services to the water industry. Liv has been recognised for her work as Chief Executive Officer of Severn Trent since 2014, prior to this she was Chief Executive of Openreach. Liv was made an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration by Leeds Beckett University in 2016.
Rob Webster, a visiting Professor in the School of Health, has been made a CBE for his services to Healthcare leadership. As Chief Executive of South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Rob plays a key role in the delivery of healthcare within the region. As a visiting Professor Rob uses his knowledge, skills and expertise to support the delivery of teaching at Leeds Beckett University.
