2021 Leeds Sports Awards finalists revealed
Graduates Alistair Brownlee MBE and Tom Bosworth have been nominated for the Sportsman of the Year award, while fellow graduates Georgia Taylor-Brown and Bronwen Owen have been shortlisted in the Sportswoman category alongside Leeds Beckett Talent Hub athlete Beth Potter.
Leeds Beckett’s Head of Strength & Conditioning Dane Mitchell is in good company; he’s been revealed as a finalist in the Coach: Performance Award category, alongside Leeds United Head Coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Dane has supported elite-level athletes throughout the pandemic, as part of his work with the Leeds Beckett Athletics Talent Hub and is currently supporting Team GB star and LBU graduate Laura Weightman as part of her USA training camp in preparation for Tokyo 2020.
In the student categories, two of Leeds Beckett’s sports teams have been recognised for their efforts during the pandemic.
Leeds Beckett University Tennis Club are shortlisted in the Student Sport: Performance category, for its hard work and dedication on the court, while Carnegie American Football have been recognised for its efforts off the field receiving a Student Sport: Participation nomination.
Triathlon Leeds, Leeds Rhinos and Leeds United, who are partnered with Leeds Beckett University, have all been shortlisted in the Club/Team Performance Award category.
The 2021 Leeds Sports Awards will broadcast live on Leeds TV for the first time in its history on Thursday 27 May from 18:30 – 20:00.
