Beckett claim big win over Manchester University
Beckett’s second team faced-off against their Lancashire rivals in a top of the table contest, as part of the university’s match of the week, with both teams entering the match with unbeaten starts to the season.
Beckett expected a tough encounter from Manchester but managed to hold their nerve to out-class their opponents with their fourth consecutive win of the season.
Beckett’s team consisted of captain Martha Thomas, Ella Riddle, Eva Harwood and Rosie Pooley.
Rosie claimed a dominant 2-0 win in her singles match while Ella and Eva claimed narrow victories over their opponents throughout the contests, while Martha had a tough outing losing 2-0 in her singles contest.
The team, however, dominated in their doubles matches with Ella and Martha as well as Rosie and Eva claiming 2-0 whitewashes.
Martha was impressed with her team’s efforts and the way the team performed in their tighter games.
“I thought the game went really well” Martha said
“We managed to win several tight games - with two third setters and a tie-break – so we’re really happy.”
Martha says the team are looking to build on their win – and the success of last year’s promotion – with many new faces joining the club this year.
“We had a really successful season last year and we’re looking to build from that,” she said
“We lost a lot of players from last year, with plenty of newcomers joining us this season, who are all trying their best to help us win the league.”
Well done to Beckett’s Tennis squad for this week’s results and best of luck for the rest of the season
