Both teams will put their unbeaten starts to the season on the line as first (Manchester) take on second as part of Beckett’s match of the week.

Beckett earned a quality 8-4 win at Northumbria while their opponents Manchester whitewashed Lancaster 12-0 in last week’s fixtures.Last Wednesday was a great day. The team spirit was high,

Club Captain Martha Thomas was impressed with her teammates efforts against Northumbria and believes team spirit is high in Beckett's camp.

"We kept each other going (against Northumbria) which I think made a big difference to result" Martha said

"When you're struggling and you're out there on your own its tough so its great to have support from your team and to look across and see other people getting stuck in. Everyone won at least one match so we were all happy to come away with a win as individuals and for the team."

This week will be another tough task for the team and while Martha admits that she isn't too familiar with her opponents she says Beckett are expecting a tough battle.

"I don't know a lot about Manchester aside from them being undefeated so far,

"We'll be going up against their first team, which will have their top players in so we're expecting a battle but that's what we play for."

After last year's undeniable success winning the Northern Conference Cup, league and gaining promotion the squad have high ambitions for this year.

"We hope to follow on from our most successful season ever and win as many leagues as last year" Martha said

"A lot of teams were promoted so we are all fighting hard to get as many BUCS points as we can."

Best of luck to the team ahead of this week’s match. You can follow all the action live from Carnegie Sport on Twitter and Instagram.

This week’s tennis league matches

The squad will face two more league matches this week as the men’s second and third teams are in action.

Beckett’s second team are set to face their Durham counterparts for their trip to the North East. After several tough losses at the hands of Nottingham over the last couple of weeks the team hope to return to winning ways against their fierce rivals.

Back on campus, the club’s third team face off against Chester. The club were edged out by Northumbria last week and will want to bounce back with three points at home.

Beckett’s teams set for another huge cup week

Men’s fourth travel to York St John for their opening match, after last week’s tough loss to Newcastle, losing three of their matches in tiebreaks. The team will look to start their Northern Conference Cup trophy defence for the third consecutive season.

Men’s fifth face a tough trip to Lancaster for their fixture. After reaching the semi finals last year, narrowly losing to Northumbria, it’ll be a magnificent achievement if they can go one further this year.

Men’s sixth and seventh teams both take on the University of Hull with both teams making impressive starts to the season, a top cup run is expected.

Finally, Beckett’s women’s thirds face a trip away to the University of Liverpool. The club picked up a promising point at home against rivals University of Leeds last week and will be looking to bring their form into their cup contest.

Best of luck to all of our teams this week
