BUCS Match of the Week returns
Beckett’s Athletic Union clubs bounced back from their shock Varsity defeat to the University of Leeds with impressive performances.
There were plenty of shocks, thrills and spills in the opening rounds of the BUCS season – with Beckett’s women’s football shining in our inaugural Match of the Week fixture.
Beckett WFC 1 Durham University 1
Team Beckett managed a last gasp 1-1 draw against last season’s unbeaten league and cup champions Durham University.
Both teams were in deadlock until the 60th minute when Durham struck to give them a 1-0 lead.
Beckett, however, were the better of the two sides and with 10 minutes left on the clock struck to level the scores at 1-1. Despite a last minute push by the home side, Beckett had to settle for the draw against last season's unbeaten champions.
Beckett's draw sees a massive improvement for the club, after last season’s disappointing 6-1 2nd round cup exit at the hands of their North East rivals.
The ladies will once again face North East opponents next week as they travel to Northumbria on Wednesday 16 October, kick-off 1:30pm.
Good luck for next week and the season ladies!
Athletic Union clubs support Zero Tolerance
This week also saw Beckett's teams show their support for Leeds Beckett's Zero Tolerance campaign.
Beckett's team members, coaches and sports staff all signed up to the Zero Tolerance pledge to help promote a zero tolerance culture towards violence and sexual harassment.
