Tom Bosworth crowned British Athletics Champion
Leeds Beckett alumnus Tom Bosworth claimed gold in the British Championships, held in Birmingham last weekend.
The former BSc Hons Sports Performance student took first prize in the men’s 5,000 metre racewalking final, claiming his fifth British Championship on his journey to the 2020 Olympics, to be held in Tokyo, Japan.
Tom competed alongside current student, and sports scholar, Callum Wilkinson (BSc Sport Event Management) who was disqualified from the men’s final after picking up three warnings.
The event also saw current students Alex Botterill (BSc Sport & Exercise Therapy), Andy Smith (BSc Physiotherapy) and Jack Major (BA Sport Business Management) compete.
Despite finishing second in his heat, Alex missed out on a place in the men’s 800m final as well as Jack who missed out on a place in the 60 metre hurdles final. Andy, on the other hand, qualified for the men’s 1,500 metre final finishing in ninth.
Congratulations to all athletes who competed this weekend and best of luck to Leeds Beckett Athletics Club who will be competing in next weekend’s BUCS Indoor Athletics Championships.
