MBE honours for Alistair Brownlee and Inder Hunjan
In addition triathlete star Alistair's coach Malcolm Brown, formerly of Leeds Met's Carnegie Faculty has also been awarded an MBE as part of the New Year's Honours list.
Alistair, who is studying for an MSc in Finance, was awarded the MBE, along with the rest of the Team GB's gold medal winning Olympic and Paralympic athletes. He said: "I'm thrilled and honoured, and I'm looking forward to meeting the Queen."
Inder has been honoured for her services to higher education.
Vice Chancellor Susan Price, commented: "I am absolutely delighted that Alistair Brownlee and Inder Hunjan have been awarded MBEs and I would like to take this opportunity to personally congratulate them both on this amazing achievement.
"Alistair's Olympic success in the 2012 Games was phenomenal and Leeds Metropolitan University is so proud of all that he has accomplished. Inder is an extremely valued colleague who has worked tirelessly for many years to expand opportunities in Higher Education and raise aspirations in our local communities: her hard work and dedication to both our University and our region has been and continues to be exemplary."
The Queen's New Year's Honours list for 2013 contained about 1350 names. Each recipient will be given one month's notice of their investiture in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace that will take place between February and April 2013. Her Majesty the Queen, HRH the Prince of Wales and HRH the Princess Royal share the joy in making the awards.
