Saturday 21 April, 2pm kick off

The home team – Leeds Beckett Carnegie American Football

League: BUCS Premier North
Position: 3rd
BUCS Championship Cup Round: Semi Finals

Leeds Beckett’s American Football club aim to cap off their incredible season with victory over the University of Leeds this weekend.

Beckett retained their place in the BUCS Premier North league, finishing 3rd in their first year in the competition.

Speaking exclusively with Leeds Beckett, Head Coach Dale Bottomley reflects on his team’s incredible 2017-18 season.

“The Premiership North is the toughest division in University American Football, so we knew it would be an extremely challenging season. We have performed well and secured a spot in the division for next season.

“Despite not achieving our ultimate aim of winning a National Championship, the players should be extremely proud as we beat teams that most people thought was an impossible task.”

Beckett are currently unbeaten in their previous five outings and will be looking to end their 2017-18 season without a blemish.

Team Beckett ready for Varsity – Coach Dale’s verdict

Varsity for me is a fun game to be involved in - having played in it as a player myself on four occasions.

The rivalry between the programmes is still strong and it's a great way to keep the players practicing and motivated throughout the Spring.

We don't have the opportunity to play against the University of Leeds as often as we used to so it will be even more of a special occasion on Saturday.

The opposition – The University of Leeds
League: BUCS 1A Yorkshire League
Position: 5th

University of Leeds will be looking to bounce back from last season’s 39-0 defeat to Beckett and end their season on a high.

The team endured a tough campaign in the BUCS 1A Yorkshire League, finishing bottom of the league with two wins throughout the season.

Despite a disappointing campaign for the Gryphons, they finished their season on a high with a 28-14 away win over Liverpool John Moores University.

Coach Dale’s verdict on the University of Leeds:

“The University of Leeds always bring a tough, physical game to the field and we expect nothing less this time.”

Best of luck to Beckett for this weekend’s fixture and let’s bring home another Varsity win!
