The purpose of the Health and Safety Consultative Committee is to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by considering issues relating to the health and safety of employees, students and visitors to the university and acting as a forum for management to consult with employees and their recognised trade unions on matters relating to their health and safety. The Health and Safety Consultative Committee advises on the development of policies, procedures and regulations which will safeguard the health and safety, welfare and wellbeing of staff, students and visitors to the university, and monitors their implementation. The Health and Safety Consultative Committee also monitors statistics on accidents, incidents and sickness and recommends action to address key issues which may arise from these.

In addition, the Health and Safety Consultative Committee receives and considers recommendations from the Wellbeing Sub-Committee, established to support the development of a thriving community which promotes and sustains colleague and student wellbeing. The Wellbeing Sub-Committee overseas the strategic direction and impact of the University Mental Health Colleague Action Plan and the Mental Health and Wellbeing Student Action Plan. The Wellbeing Sub-Committee also promotes and make recommendations regarding wellbeing and mental health considerations with respect to our University’s policy and practice.
