widening access and participation

making A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE

OUR COMMITMENT

At Leeds Beckett University our mission is to ensure we use our knowledge and resources to make a positive and decisive difference to people, communities and organisations. We strive to enable people to raise their aspirations and develop their abilities in order to realise their potential and contribute fully to our society. This is part of our heritage and central to our future.

We are committed to working with our community to increase participation in higher education by raising the aspirations and expectations of all potential students. We work with all of our students to support their success throughout their studies with us and their progression into graduate employment or further study as set out in our Education Strategy.

Access and Participation Plan

Our Access and Participation Plan sets out our aspirations, targets and milestones aimed specifically at equality of opportunity for under-represented groups of students to access, succeed in and progress from higher education.

Our Access and Participation plan 2020/21 has been updated, through the addition of a ‘variation’ document. This reflects new requirements of all higher education institutions, as set out by the Director of Fair Access at the Office for Students (OFS) in March 2022. This has been approved by the Office for Students and is available to download from this page.

*This has been approved by the OFS to be rolled over for use in 2024/25.

All universities wishing to charge fees of £9,250 must have an Access and Participation Plan in place in accordance with the Higher Education and Research Act 2017. These Plans are reviewed and updated annually and each year we provide the Office for Students with information about our progress towards our targets.

Access and Participation Plans cover the duration of a student’s studies, commencing in the academic year in which study begins. Access and Participation Plans for previous years are listed below and are also available from the Office for Students website.
