The purpose of our Framework is to provide greater clarity and consistency regarding the typical range of activities that make up academic roles.

These activities are grouped under the following themes:

  • Qualifications
  • Learning & Teaching
  • Academic Leadership
  • Research, Enterprise and Consultancy
  • External Profile

Each theme is relevant to all staff undertaking academic roles and are vital to the achievement of our University’s strategic goals.  Some roles have a greater emphasis on specific themes depending on their key focus but all have a contribution to make across all five areas.

Click on a role in the Framework diagram below to open information about the 5 academic themes.  They open in a ‘stacking’ format so the levels of activity for more junior roles will appear as well. For example, by choosing 'Principal Lecturer' and 'Learning & Teaching', the content for 'Lecturer' and 'Senior Lecturer' will appear, guiding colleagues to understand how roles progress along the 5 academic themes.  Clicking a Professorial roles will ask you to select a ‘route’ (either 'Learning & Teaching' or 'Research') which will determine the content that appears.

Each role is also provided in a PDF format to provide a ‘printer friendly’ summary.
