Students at Leeds Fest

What to expect

What will festival volunteering be like?

Not volunteered with our partnerships before or never been to a Festival? Don’t worry, we make sure that you have all the information you need before the event.

We run a recruitment and selection process for students who want to volunteer to be part of our Festival Crew. Whilst some of the roles require a level of technical ability, the vast majority of our opportunities are open to all. You do not need specialist experience or have to be studying a particular course. Please look through the roles advertised to choose which are right for you – we ask you to explain why you think you are a suitable candidate and how you feel the opportunity will help your employability. Your application will be considered, and if shortlisted, you will be asked to attend an interview with one of our team before we make our final selection.

As one of our volunteers, you will be representing our University to our partners. We expect that you will adopt a professional approach to volunteering and gain as much as you can from this valuable opportunity to boost your future employability. If selected, you will be asked to sign a Partnership Volunteering Agreement confirming our expectations of you and outlining your responsibilities. We will also inform your Personal Tutor that you are volunteering with us. If you are chosen to volunteer at either Latitude or Leeds Festivals we ask that you pay a refundable deposit of £200 to secure your Festival Wristband. We will fully refund this deposit to you on satisfactory completion of your volunteering duties with us.

In order to help you with your volunteering experience you must go along to a Festival Crew briefing session that will be arranged by the University in advance of the event that you are volunteering at. You will also be provided with any necessary pre-event information prior to your volunteering experience, together with your Leeds Beckett University ‘CREW’ uniform that you must wear whilst on duty.

If you are volunteering at either Leeds or Latitude Festivals you will be expected to camp on site at the Festival for which you will need to take your own camping equipment and suitable clothing and footwear. At Latitude you will be camping for 6 nights, at Leeds usually just 5 nights. Transport will be provided by our University to Latitude Festival but not to Leeds Festival, to which you must make your own way, as indeed you will have to for all other volunteering opportunities with our partnerships. At Latitude and Leeds Festivals you will be expected to work the equivalent of full days though this may be broken down into ‘shifts’. You will get some free time to explore the Festival and we want you to have fun whilst there but please remember that you are primarily there to work!
