World Triathlon Series

World Triathlon Series

The UK's most prestigious triathlon event

The ITU World Triathlon Series welcomes the world's fastest triathletes to travel to iconic cities to compete against each other for the chance to be crowned World Champion.

On 10-11 June the series returns to Leeds for the second time. Many of Team GB’s Rio Olympians will once again be back in Leeds alongside up to 5,000 recreational athletes competing to be roared home by an expected crowd of 80,000 spectators.

Olympic gold-winning Leeds Beckett alumnus, Alistair Brownlee (MSc Finance, 2013) and brother Jonny, are among those taking part in the men’s elite race; while  BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science (2015) alumna Georgia Taylor Brown is set to compete in the women’s elite race.  Leeds Triathlon Centre athletes Non Stanford, Jess Learmonth, Lucy Hall, Tom Bishop, Gordon Benson and Aaron Royle are also all set to take part.

This year we will be working with the World Triathlon Series and offering over 100 Leeds Beckett students and alumni the chance to volunteer as Tri Makers at this international event. Our volunteers will be supporting the athletes on the course and working in registration, at the swim start, during the transition and with the transport teams.

Second year BSc (Hons) Sports and Exercise Therapy students will also be offering physiotherapy and massage support to competing athletes, under the guidance of Dr Philomena Commons and Jason Hyde, Senior Lecturers in the School of Clinical & Applied Sciences.

The World Triathlon Series Video and Media Teams have also given four of our students the chance to gain a valuable and unique work experience with them. These opportunities allow our students to provide media support and generate video content to brief. Videos will be showcasing the age-group athlete experience to attain local and national media coverage. All Leeds Beckett students involved in this partnership’s work experience will enhance their CVs and increase their employability.

Please note: applications for the World Triathlon Series' volunteering opportunities have now closed.

Leeds Beckett will be hosting stands at both the City Centre and Roundhay Park Expo events, where visitors will be able to access more information about studying at Leeds Beckett.
